Warrior Wednesday: Mental and Physical Strength

Screen Shot 2014-03-17 at 3.42.11 PM

Isn’t that the best quote? Shout out to Elliott Hulse for the picture.

It fits perfectly for Warrior Wednesday.

Think about our society today: Some of our most brilliant minds are plagued by physical weakness. A warrior is willing to die for their cause. We see this when it comes to the scientists who won’t loudly defend their ideas and instead get bullied by politics or money. Then on the flip side, we see men and women constantly getting into physical fights in bars without much thought to the purpose of their violence. Think: Jersey Shore.

This is the goal of this site: To create a community of people focusing on both physical and mental growth. People who want to become stronger in every aspect. People who want to pursue their full potential. People who want to change the world.

Warrior Wednesday: Purging Your Environment

The most important part to starting any new journey, fitness routine, or habit is to purge everything that could sabotage you from your environment.

It’s dramatic, I know.

People whine and say, “But, nooooo I can totally keep the ice cream in the freezer and I swear I won’t eat it.”

But you will. If it’s there, you will. We all do.

When there are temptations, it tests your willpower every single day until it simply wears you down.

It’s a lot harder to have to go to the store to buy your cheat food instead of just go to your fridge and eat it right.

Building your inner warrior is a process you have to take seriously. This site isn’t here to coddle you. If you want someone to tell you that it’s okay to quit every time it gets hard, this site isn’t for you.

Building a better life and a better body requires as much clarity in your mind as you can create.

This requires a cleansing of the body, food, information consumption, and things you own.

Here are some ideas to cleanse your life:

Kitchen:

– Donate all of the food that doesn’t support your goals. I am not a fan of just throwing it away, because what a waste, especially if there are people in your community who are struggling. A warrior always looks out for their community. But don’t let that deter you from getting rid of it however you have to. Get it out of your kitchen and home.

– Is there an appliance that is hurting your progress or could make it better? The one appliance I think everyone should have is a juicer. That’s pretty much it. If I had an ice cream maker I would be screwed because that is my weakness. Is there something you own that is ruining your goals because it makes eating “easier”? Donate it to Goodwill or give it to a friend to hold onto until your program is over.

– Get rid of any toxins that slow you down. There are tons of chemicals in our environment that poison our bodies and slow us down. Clean ’em out.

Home:

Purging a home can be hard. Some things are so emotional they are hard to get rid of. After just moving, I can tell you that purging is wildly important. It’s always shocking to discover how much stuff you have once you start to clean it out. If it doesn’t enhance your life, or help you pursue a future goal you want, just get rid of it. Nothing is worse than owning too many things that will constantly weigh on our conscience.

– Set a cleaning schedule. It doesn’t matter what kind of schedule, just set one. Having a clean, organized home will bring much more clarity than having stuff everywhere. This is a lesson I am constantly learning. Constantly.

– Get a planner. Seriously. Writing out your goals and your to-do’s is essential to creating peace of mind moving forward in your journey. It doesn’t have to be complicated, even something simple will do such as top three things to accomplish for any given day.

Life:

– Are there people in your life who don’t support your goals? Do they constantly bring you down? I have two lessons that I am constantly learning when it comes to the people in my life: 1. Never expect people to live up to your expectations. They will always do their own thing, so don’t expect them to act/do certain things. 2. Don’t try to impress anyone. Letting go of the next to impress people will let you drop a lot of goals that aren’t really for you. Going back to #1, people will also put expectations on you. It’s up to you if you want to follow through with them or if you want to follow your own goals.

Those are some of the best tips I have discovered so far to creating mental clarity. What has helped you purge, declutter, and take control of your environment?

Motivational Mindset Monday: Understanding the Process

No matter what modern-day marketing tries to convince you, fitness is a slow process.

Anyone who promises you a six-pack in like two weeks is out of their mind and should get fired from the internet.

One of the top questions I receive is, “Why am I not seeing results?”

Here’s a rule of thumb to remember for today:

It takes four weeks for you to notice a body change.
It takes eight weeks for those people close to you to notice.
It takes twelve weeks for everyone else to finally notice the work you’ve done.

So, after week one or two of your program, you can just patiently wait and know that the results are coming and to keep going.

Shortcut to Size: The Beginning and the Motivation

Strength is the foundation of everything.

Discipline, hard work, sacrifice… All necessary to build a good, honorable life.

Anyone who wants a less than legendary life doesn’t have to worry about the essential virtues, but this small community here on this site, we are focused on our lifelong legacy.

I have found that when I am physically weak, I am weak in all other areas of my life. Having physical strength also gives me the mental strength to handle the strenuous work I put on my own shoulders.

The world will cater to us if we want a life of ease…

If you want to get a job you hate, complain about your life on Facebook, drink your life away at happy hour, watch TV endlessly, and generally give up on those audacious dreams you have, the world will accommodate you. You will find hundreds of friends who want to join you in suck-ville.

However, if you want to change your life, break out of the box everyone has put you in, start growing stronger, and become a better version of yourself, everyone around you will get uncomfortable. Most people around you will not support it. You shaking it up reminds them about those dreams they quit on, so they will do anything possible to put you back into that box they want you in.

I have been given the gift of hitting rock bottom, being able to start over, and create a new definition for my life and how I fit into that picture.

Also, I just want to take a question and give a huge shout out to my best friend in the entire world who has saved my life through this whole process. Please go give her some love on her blog by clicking: here. I pray for anyone reading this that they can have a friend as good as Katey is to me.

Mentioning Katey, we are both committing the next 12 weeks as an absolute transformation of everything around us. We are going to take the next 12 weeks and roundhouse kick them square in the neck.

Personally, I will be doing the Shortcut to Size program once again. I know, I’ve done it before, but I never finished it out to the very last day.

100% unacceptable. It is a program that has followed me around for quite some time, taunting me that I never finished it.

Now I have a lot on the line and can’t wait to dominate that very last day of this program. I appreciate the support you have all given me on social media and if you want to join me, I’d love to have you guys with me.

Stop Arguing the Details Instead of DOING THE WORK

Fitness has less to do with the little details and so much more to do with the internal battle you must face every day.

Go to any fitness site/forum/YouTube video and you will see hundreds of comments about people arguing the smallest details that really don’t matter.

(You can read the best article on this from Ramit Sethi: here)

So many people want to sit around and debate the little details… macronutrients, stretching, protein, before and after meals, drop sets, and so on instead of, you know, GOING TO THE GYM.

These people are in every industry. You know my full-time work is as a writer and there are thousands of grammar nerds debating about the Oxford Comma instead of, you know, writing shit and getting published.

You’ll never see J.K. Rowling yelling at someone about grammar because she’s too busy actually accomplishing things, and hopefully swimming in large pools of money… and if she’s not I’m not sure what the point of being a billionaire is.

Until fitness is a habit, the most important part has nothing to do with the fitness or the nutrition but instead the internal war with internal resistance you have inside.

You could have the best fitness program in the whole world, but if the part of you that wants to sit on the couch and watch Mad Men while you soak your arteries in buttered popcorn wins every night then your program doesn’t mean shit.

Fight that battle every single day, and you’ll figure out the other details as you go.

If you’re still struggling to start and stick to a work out program, sign up for my insider information because I have something very exciting being released soon that is guaranteed to help you…
